In Loving Memory of Diana Smith. . .

My friend Jennifer lost her mom in December and wanted to get this info out so in honor of her mom please read on. . .

February is American Heart Month and there has been tons of info put out in magazines, television commericals, website articles, etc. this month on heart disease and heart attacks. What few articles fail to mention is that in most cases of heart attacks in women, the signs are much different than the over publicized ones of men. My mom passed away late last year from a heart attack at the young age of 48. She was a nurse for 29 years and both she and my father did not realize that she was suffering from a heart attack but instead thought she had the flu, as her symptoms were flu like. Please read the following symptoms of heart attacks in women and pass this info on to the women in your life. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women in the United States, one out of two women will die from this disease.

Signs of Heart attack in Women
Chest pain-may also include back pain and/or deep aching and throbbing in one or both arms.
Nasuea and flu-like symptoms including vomiting, sweating.
Tightening of the throat
Breathlessness and/or inability to catch your breath when waking up.
Dizziness--unexplained lightheadedness, possible blackouts.
Anxiety--unusual nervousness, feelings of impending doom.
Edema--fluid retention and swelling usually of the ankles or lower legs.
Fluttering--rapid heartbeats, palpitations.
